Welcome to the home of Quilter’s Canvas. I look forward to sharing my passion for fabric painting and long arm machine quilting with friends, new and old.
I started creating the hand painted quilt squares you see here from the multitude of practice pieces of machine quilting I was stock piling during my training period on my Gammill Optimum Plus long-arm quilting machine. I’ve tried to take the machine quilting process a step further by creating a new use for the many designs I write. With the idea of creating unique quilted canvases, I hope to not only open the world of fabric painting to friends that would never otherwise venture into this area of quilting, but also offer pre-quilted squares to home machine quilter to enhance their own work . With these lofty goals in mind I started along the road toward Blackman Quilt Studio. Armed with my original designs and a wealth of new ideas I present my current portfolio of Quilter’s Canvas. Many of the designs are also available as down-loadable stitch files for use by other computerized long-arm quilters.
What is a Quilter’s Canvas?
Quilter’s Canvases are pre-quilted, fabric squares. They are made of 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton batting. The canvases are designed to be incorporated into any textile art project and, are suitable for any type of fabric embellishment. In fact, embellishment techniques which can not be quilted “thru” can usually be applied “on” a Quilter’s Canvas. They can also be used “as is” to appreciate the intricate designs.
I recently decided to experiment with using needle-turn appliqué on Quilter’s Canvas, and I’m really happy with the merging of the two mediums. My first line of appliqué canvas is called Baltimore Reflections. The wall hanging in My Gallery, “Just East of Baltimore” (I live in New Jersey) is an example of a collection of Baltimore Reflection Canvas: some squares are appliquéd and others left “as is”. 
Quilter’s Canvases are available in several fabric choices including Kona Cotton, Muslin, Sew Batik. Specialty fabrics and threads are available upon request. Quilter’s Canvas are sold individually, or in discounted bundles for piecing together. Kits, paints and fabric bundles are also available. And an extra fat quarter of the background fabric is available upon request for use in pieced borders.
Blackman Designs is a collection of my digitized quilting designs that are available for download to computerized long-arm quilters. All designs were created and tested on my Gammill with Statler Stitcher. The patterns are also available in the Intellistitch format. All designs are copyrighted by Lynne Blackman, Blackman Quilt Studio, and the purchase of any design implies your agreement to standard copyright restrictions on their use. Professional quilters may use them on as many completed tops as you wish, however, the patterns are not to be used in the mass production of quilts. Blackman designs may not be used to produce Quilter’s Canvas or pre-quilted squares for re-sale of any kind. My patterns are not to be photocopied or digitized in any way.
